Day 3 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia MBFWA 2014 on location with Thread’s Photographer Sam Lee and Writer Dana Lee.
Here are our impressions of collections by Ginger and Smart, Leroy Nguyen, Cameo, and Maticevski.
Day three began with Ginger and Smart. The collection was very modern and feminine, with sleeveless tops with long pencil skirts both in white and in full floral print fabrics.
Some of my favourite outfits include the v-neck sleeveless top with floral knee-length pencil skirt that had a zip opening at the front which created a centre slit.
Also a white textured satin jumpsuit stood out, teamed with an oversized blazer that gave an ‘office chic’ look.
Centre slits were a definite feature of the collection along with beautiful printed fabrics.
Overall the collection was on trend and wearable for the modern woman.
Leroy Nguyen
Blue rose
The Spring Summer 14/15 collection by Leroy Nguyen was simple and chic. The outfits had structure and form using panels to create a unique look.
The key features to this collection were flared hemlines and the colour blue that reflects back on the inspiration of his collection.
The blue rose print fabrics created the overall mood of the collection that was vibrant and unique.
Cameo
Boogie nights
Geoprism prints came in sweatshirts and pants. There were uneven hemline mini dresses that flared out disco-style, and wrap-style skirts that draped the body.
The sweatshirts paired up with shorts created an effortless style. Some key pieces include the white shirt with sheer panels worn with a vibrant patterned disco skirt.
In contrast, the simple dresses such as the striped mini dress (on Samantha Harris) and black sleeveless dresses balanced out the overall collection.
Some of my favourite outfits include the white sleeveless lace top styled with a striped long skirt with a slit down the front.
I also loved a black dress that was tailored perfectly to the body: at the same time elegant and playful.
Overall the collection had variety and was very commercial and youthful.
Maticevski
Orchid Metamorphosis
Maticevski’s collection explored notions of botanical metamorphoses. It was romantic feminine and had luxurious detailing and languid fabrics that created linear and A-line silhouettes.
Some of my favourite pieces include the luxurious black A-line dress with a white high neck. The model wore bangles on each wrist that added modernity to the classic design dress.
Another favourite was the last outfit. It was a strapless orange dress with a flared waist, styled with a vibrant orange oversized coat. What stood out was the fabric of the dress. It was textured and looked glistening. Each creation were flawless and the detailing was perfect. Modern fresh iridescent palettes were used on models that created a pure and angelic look in comparison to the highly luxurious pieces that balanced out the overall look so well.
The highlight for the show personally was the finale walk. Models came out with orchid petals held in their mouths and gradually those bloomed into flowers. It was very artistic and beautiful.
The show received one of the longest applauses so far and was a hot topic after the show.
In all, Day 3 was very dynamic, showcasing some amazing Australian designers. Overall they were feminine, vibrant and romantic.
