Fashion Week Australia 2018: Day 1 Camilla and Marc
I’M HERE! AUSTRALIAN FASHION WEEK COMIN FOR YA. Was up at 5am for the airport, picked up Julie and had breakfast at Auckland Airport and after a slight delay of our plane going nowhere for quite some time, we made it. So excited to be here. Happy mother’s day to all the mothers!
Carriageworks Registration to pick up our passes
Tonight is special, as it’s the opening show of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia featuring Camilla and Marc at an offsite venue – the Royal Hall of Industries – celebrating the 15th anniversary of the much-loved Australian fashion label.
I’m here outside the main doors of Carriageworks aka the street style parade main HQ. I really like how the week’s schedule is painted in white on the massive doors. It’s like a window to fashion.
Next up, our Airbnb
This, would you believe, is my first time ever using Airbnb and Julie got me on to it. I’m loving our little house for the week. Much better having a house than just a hotel room as we have a kitchen, and outside patio, or ‘rain garden’ as I call it. I’m hoping it’s a wine garden by Tuesday when the weather is supposed to clear. Our Airbnb host is super lovely and left us a hamper of welcome treats and hot drinks including a nespresso machine, and we didn’t need to bring anything with us such as hairdryers which is handy.
Julie and I in the media area before the show. A TV camera filmed us doing this selfie ha ha.

Above: the sea of photographers present to capture the red carpet. A star-studded line up of guests were front row, including Elsa Pataky, Isabel Lucas, Lauren Brown, Jessica Gomes, Elyse Taylor, Isabella Manfredi, Kym Ellery, Victoria Lee, Kit Willow, Megan Irwin, Pip Edwards, Claire Tregoning, Roberta Pecorino, Carla Zampatti, Kate Fowler, Amy Pejkovic, Anna Henrich, Sara Donaldson, Tom & Hoda Waterhouse, Nadia Fairfax, Carmen Hamilton, Mimi Elashiry, and Amy Pejkovic.

My photos from the show
The show launched the new line of leather bags and eyewear with these fabulous timeless-yet-contemporary sunglasses, and eye-catching stand out oversized bags. The jumbo-sized bags made for great runway appeal.
The new jewellery line was debuted, included these ecru geometric dangly statement earrings. Short pastel boots with a block heel complemented the midi-length skirts.
Finally, a bag that fits all my lipsticks. These puffed sleeves and spilt hem trousers were seen on several pieces and garments were closely fitted to the body. This pale pink outfit has a short dress styled over slim pants.
This dress was a real show-stopper; a sleeveless fluid metallic gown for the red (sand) carpet. Both floor-length and flawless.
Shiny black textures contrasted amongst the ochre rocks – hi tech vs nature. The show’s blurb stated the collection explored themes of opulence and simplicity. Signature house tailoring dominated, enhanced by bold and new proportions. Utilitarian and military style jackets, exaggerated men’s style suiting and sports luxe themes were punctuated by timeless feminine proportions in hourglass shapes, fringing and off shoulder shapes all enhanced by an exploration of layering, volume and colour.
The styling of the show, by Christine Centenera, was so interesting, with these off the shoulder cocktail dresses worn over a crisp white shirt in a daywear-meets-eveningwear look. Nothing was straight; it was all a little ‘messed with’.
All 32 models walk the stage in the finale. Victoria’s Secret supermodel Georgia Fowler, the Mercedes-Benz special guest, is in the emerald green lurex dress. Fowler is also to be the judge of upcoming brand new reality TV show, New Zealand Project Runway later in 2018.
The brother and sister duo designers of Camilla and Marc, Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman, take to the stage after the finale.

It was a nice touch that Mercedes-Benz hosts brought out Moet & Chandon Champagne for all the guests after the show, and I got to try my first ever truffle canape. Tasted earthy, rather fittingly for the zen garden outback show we had just seen. It was also great to catch up with Karen Walker and her husband Mikhail Gherman over from Auckland for her invite-only lunch on Friday, and you can read her Camilla and Marc review on Refinery 29.
