Karen Walker AW13 at NYFW Pier 59 New York City

You are your own person.

That’s the message Karen Walker gave to her fans at Pier 59. Flats and sky high heels, short and long skirts, slouchy jackets and form fitting sweaters.

Any of the It Girls of fashion would adore this collection. Everyone from Rumy Neely (FashionToast) to Leandra Medine (Man Repeller) could find a Karen Walker item to incorporate into their wardrobe.

In fact, both of the aforementioned bloggers were in the audience, along with the other fashion blogger elite. The front row set the audience a twitter (literally, on Twitter). Isaac Hinden-Miller was there with Jack Tame shooting a live report. People mingled amongst each other, catching up on the latest gossip, remarking about the last show they were at. This was a cool kids’ party and if you were a cool kid, you got a pair of sunglasses [note: the writer wasn’t cool enough.]

The stage itself was uncomplicated. There were no opulent sets or dramatic lighting. It was all about the clothes.

The permutations were boundless. The colour palate mixed pinks, army greens, citruses and blacks. The textures had chunky knits, sleek silks, lush tweeds and sturdy wool. Of course, there was Walker’s signature work with mixing patterns.

Anything goes and it goes very well. Walker isn’t about unattainable fashion; it’s for the girl that wants to wear her personality.
