Kicking off the week at The Marr Factory, Karen Walker opened the fashion series at Golden Dawn with her Summer 2013/14 collection, ‘New Rose’.
It’s been 37 years since British punk rockers The Damned released their first single, ‘New Rose’, but it felt right up to the minute as it played at the finale of the catwalk show. The music, as always, suitably complemented the punk vibe of the bleeding roses in this season’s signature print.
Starting on time like a Swiss watch, the 7pm sharp runway show showcased in-season, current collection clothing to the crowd of public at the Marr Factory week-long event. Shows are attended via $50 tickets available on www.iTicket.co.nz) are aimed squarely at converting into immediate retail sales (by contrast with fashion week promoting next season to the industry); a voucher in the goody bag gave punters $30 off the new pieces instore, and gift with purchase at Stephen Marr Salons. The (predominantly young female) crowd was well-heeled, well-behaved and well-dressed, enjoying Courvoisier cognac punch (highly recommend!) and intently scrutinising each outfit down the runway. Having around 250 guests was enough to give it a good vibe without being crushingly popular!
Makeup was created by MAC Cosmetics with the most striking feature being the upper and lower winged eyeliner in orange or lime green Chromaline. Lips were nuded out with Dim Lip Erase and brows left natural with Clear Brow Set.
