A league of women marched on New York today. But it wasn’t your regular protest; this was Karen Walker’s ‘The League’, inspired by strong women and suffragettes. The right to vote movement holds particular meaning for Walker’s home country, as New Zealand was first to give women the right, in 1893. Now, these feminine feminists show their colours in her designs that are at once utilitarian, yet not without decoration.
“Karen Walker brings a strong statement about the plight of the Suffragettes to her clothes. While the silhouette is classic Walker, there is a boldness in the statement of the clothes, both figuratively and literally. This is a collection for the modern erudite woman who isn’t afraid to engage in the polemic.” commented Thread’s reporter, Iris Chan, who was at the New York show today.
