The one thing you can’t do is go to a Trelise Copper Show in a bad mood. Well, you can I suppose, but you will never leave in one.
The show was introduced by the very chic Carol Hirschfeld, in a red Trelise dress, and you could tell she felt she was very much among friends. Trelise spoke briefly to thank all her many supporters and explained why she held the Breast Cancer Research Trust so close to her heart. Breast cancer rates are rising in NZ with 1 in 8 women are now affected, touched either by the disease itself, or with it touching someone they know.
We noticed that there didn’t seem to be a huge amount of celebrity guests present and we felt that was a good thing as it meant there were a lot of ticket-buying people there contributing to the huge $20,000 that was raised. Go Trelise!

…and a passing baby wearing camo earmuffs and her mama we shot as she was walking past!
The show started with Trelise’s take on this season’s strong trend of nautical/French stripes – lots of navy and crisp white. We loved the white tee with the navy sequin stripe on it.
There were plenty of the pretty tailored dresses that Trelise does so well. Below: Laura.
Pale blue followed, then the reds – with her favourite red polka dots – and a princess-like tulle shirt. We particularly liked a ruched tie-dyed dress with a fitted bodice and full silk georgette skirt.
Below: a white tulle skirt teamed with her signature red and white stripes.
This was followed by an explosion of colour – peppered with the tiniest bit of black – in turquoise, fuchsia, yellow, and green.
Lots of lovely loose fitting kaftans – which will be seen on beaches, at barbeques, and generally out and about all around NZ come summer we imagine! It is definitely going to be a happy, girly, beautiful summer at Trelise Cooper.
Just a note about the models; the styling was gorgeous, with hair by Bettjemans and make-up by MAC. Below: Christobel.
We know the media always mention it when a model loses a shoe – at the expense of mentioning any of the clothes on parade- but honestly, the audience loved it when, after losing a shoe, a model managed to salvage the situation by simply slipping them both off and sauntering down the catwalk with a big smile on her face.
The two girls from last season’s NZ’s Next Top Model acquitted themselves well; we loved Laura’s pale complexion and her short white hair. We look forward to seeing them both at Fashion Week…
We salute Trelise for her mammoth effort, especially as we heard on the grapevine that she buried her father last week, but still wanted to be at the event as the cause is so special to her. It was all classic Trelise with lashings of colour and sequins with a happy soundtrack to boot!
