Nevenka – L’Oreal Paris Runway 6
L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2011
The woman behind Nevenka is Rosemary Masic. I will be honest with you, my dear readers, her opinions on plus size clothing make me want to slam her collection before I’ve even seen it.
Masic’s collection comes across a little confused. Perhaps not grandma-esque as the collection feels more like what you would find in your grandma’s attic or cupboards, as opposed to solely "grandma style".
Aptly placed in the Frankie show and utilising said "grandma style", she is working with the Rachel Barry trend of dowdy-chic.
My favourite outfit of the collection conjured images of my grandma’s upholstery, small rose carved soaps, shabby golden bath taps and the smell of her old mink stoles. In this one outfit, she has really captured a certain nostalgia for me.
Despite the dabblings of floral, her runway was also dominated by clean white cotton in doily patterns coupled with grey jumpers littered with metallics. I say dominated, I mean dominated. Five outfits of the same-same. Yes. We get it.
Then, when you feel like you really have a grasp of what she’s going for, she throws in some nebula blue sci-fi print. Why? I’m not entirely sure. That fabric, of everything, makes least sense for the collection as a whole.
Conclusion: Flashes of brilliance but lacking in the direction department.
