NOMd showed their Spring Summer collection at Marr Factory at Golden Dawn in Ponsonby on 19th August to a full house of fashion fans, VIP customers, and media. As well as their signature cool and edgy clothes, a highlight was the plaited hair, and white mask-like face makeup. In the finale, UV lights came on, making their faces glow under the black light like beautiful aliens. Another stunning show by NOM*d.
Hair was created by Jason Chong Li of Stephen Marr using Original & Mineral, and makeup by KieKie of MAC cosmetics. Special mention to some fantastic hosting by Bombay Sapphire cocktails, Karma Cola sodas (and their illustrated Gingeralla girl dressed in NOMd, pictured below) and Quartz Reef wines.

You don’t have to speak Huttese, Jawaese or Wookiee to understand NO*SENSE, NOM*d’s powerful new SS14/15 collection because it speaks its own language. With the knowledge and vision of a Jedi Master, Designer Margarita Robertson infuses the range with a new energy that fashions its own world, and, like ‘the force’ itself, should long “be with you”.
Strong diamond and prism prints feature this season, adorning dresses, skirts and slips like shafts of refracted lightsaber beams amidst a colour palette of Storm, Indigo, Dusk, Orange, Red, Grey and Black.
Signature fabrics such as viscose crepe and georgette are mixed with cotton linens, gingham, printed nylon and cotton mesh. The Darth Vader of fabrics, neoprene, creates an overall sense of star power.
Rather than opine, “I love you,” like Leia to a departing Hans Solo, NOM*d’s Princess NO*SENSE would be more likely to chant one of the collection’s several t-shirt slogans: “Utini!” – which in Jawa of course means “Get over here!”. “Die Wana Wanga” growls the Bib Fortuna tee, its translation? “What is your business”. Pesky, wayward boyfriends will simply be told to “Stay on the Leader.” Straight up, no nonsense, this is your command.
It is indeed a new episode for Robertson and the crew but NO*SENSE is not really an empire striking back or perhaps the return of the classic NOM*d monster. This collection represents a prequel to the future, a new design order befitting Spring Summer 2014/15. As Princess Leia extracts herself from Hans Solo’s embrace in The Empire Strikes Back, Solo suggests she should not get too excited: “Captain, being held by you isn’t quite enough to get me excited,” she coyly replies. No, we’ll leave that to NOM*d’s NO*SENSE SS 14/15 collection.
