Auckland designer Pia Naera is only 21 years old and already is making a name for herself in fashion, holding a solo show a month after a successful show at New Zealand Fashion Week in September 2012.

Thread asked her about her label, and what she’s been up to…

"I studied graphic design at AUT and for my last assignment I researched the relationship between graphic and textile design" Pia says. "The outcome was three digital printed dresses which had an amazing response – so I decided to dedicate this year to developing and growing Pia Boutique and so far it has been going amazingly and is starting to really take off!

"The incredible response and interest from fashion week encouraged me to take my brand to the next level" she says, after holding a label launch party on Thursday 18th October at Parnell venue, The Rock on Gibraltar. "The evening was a celebration of all things beautiful and feminine, featuring a live catwalk show of my current Spring Summer 12/13 collection, ‘Neon Bloom’".

"I have recently been working on a few ‘Pia Couture’ pieces which debuted in the catwalk show; stunning evening gowns that are exclusive one-off pieces. Although this isn’t my main focus, I am interested to where ‘Pia Couture’ will take me in the future. These pieces were an experiment to see how buyers would react to them and to see if there is a place in the market for them. Depending on response I am interested to see if Pia Boutique will take this path in the future. Those dresses can be made up again and sold on request."

"Pia Boutique is currently only sold online (www.piaboutique.com) but we are more than happy to meet up with customers if they wish to try things on", says Pia (contact her on pia@piaboutique.com). She is planning her next event within the next six months.
