Robyn Mathieson hits Newmarket

I love new stores and on Thursday 5th of August, I went along to the launch of Robyn Mathieson’s new store in Newmarket, her second store in Auckland, and the launch of her summer collection…

New stores equals new locations to shop at and more items to try on therefore more shopping options!

I love new stores and on Thursday 5th of August I went along to the launch of Robyn Mathieson’s new store in Newmarket, her second store in Auckland. Located at 19B Osborne Street, just off Teed Street, it sits alongside compatriot designer stores.

In unison with celebrating the opening of her store, Robyn also unveiled her new Summer collection entitled “I’d rather be…”.

Friends and neighbours who attended the launch were indulged with wine and tasty finger foods and handed goody bags filled with treats from Clinique, Lush and Servilles.

Robyn choose this location for her store because it "would enjoy the foot traffic that Newmarket stores experience, bringing her designs to a wider audience." Store manager Corina Beaton, below, is excited to rejoin Robyn’s team because her experience with working with this Wellington-based designer has "been good and working with great garments is always fun."

The store, designed in collaboration with Wellington designer Scott Gordon, below, serves as a canvas for Robyn’s exciting designs.

Clean and simple, in favour of Robyn’s preference for mid-century design, the layout of the store works as the perfect backdrop for the vibrantly coloured clothing to inject character to the store. I enjoyed the openness of the store design which permits maximum twirling around in Robyn’s dresses.

All Robyn’s staff were dressed in items from her latest collection. The collection reminds us of our childhood imaginings, when we would have rather been “doing the loop de loop” and “left with the icing bowl” – just some of the names of her garments, providing a whimsical perspective for a grown up world.

Her summer collection carries a mixture of structured items and floaty items in solid bright bold colors and abstract patterns. I loved the flowing feminine dresses in vibrant hues and I especially liked the solid electric blue floaty dresses – perfect for a night out dancing in summer.

So make your way to Newmarket, check out the store and let Robyn Mathieson’s latest collection take you back to childhood whimsies – and help you prepare for summer!
