Runway no.5

Ok so recap: The major themes on the catwalk were fur coats, nude and earth colours, cut out pieces, a 90s minimalist feel with a dash of femininity; and lastly, clean cut high collars. All useful for your next shopping expedition…

L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2011

The catwalk show, ‘Runway 5’, was presented by Harper’s Bazaar and was made up of seven designers. As with Harper’s Bazaar itself, the looks were aimed at mid twenty-somethings to about forty-odd, who gravitate toward a sophisticated look (maybe a bit older. I’m not sure what you’d consider mutton dressed as lamb these days.)

My absolute, drool-into-my-lap-while-nearly-falling-off-my-chair, favourite pieces were as follows…

Willow (pictured left):

This outfit is bang on trend. Not just that; it’s bang on UP COMING trend. Exposing a bit of mid-drift with a layered outfit will be huge this season, mainly due to the must-have chino pant as a staple. Also the shoulder pads are perfecto, especially with the point. Plus, the platform Roman sandals= amazing.

Scanlan and Theodore:

Having cut out pieces in an outfit is so hot right now, well actually it’s a bit cooler, seeing as you have bare skin, but lame jokes aside, this is a look that is flattering to most body types and can make a plain looking garment that little bit sexier without being too showy.

This is probably my very favourite look. The elbow pads I heart so, so much. This screams Nana chic.

Dion Lee: I love a nice crispy collar done all the way up… easy style and class.

Jayson Brunsdon: Animal print and a faux-fur coat is a hard combination to pull off, but can look amazing if it is. A big theme in Jayson Brunsdon’s line was animal print- which I am always a sucker for.

I also loved this dress by Jayson Brunsdon, pretty much because it reminds me of a Barbie dress I had when I was little that I was obsessed with.

Aurelio Costarella: I love Aurelio Costarella’s take on chinos.

Collette Dinnigan: I really like the lace with the sweetheart bodice.

Imagine wearing this ultimate Princess dress?

Toni Maticevski: I love the flowing texture to this look, it’s fresh while still staying with the earth tones of this season.

Ok so recap: The major themes on the catwalk were fur coats, cut out pieces, nude and earth colours, a 90s minimalist feel with a dash of femininity; and lastly, clean-cut high collars. So, go take this information on your next shopping expedition!
