A STRANGE LOVE PROJECT
5th April at Hopetoun Alpha
Salasai launched their SS2011 collection last night with a video and photographic collaboration with Nick Von K jewellery, photographer Russ Flatt and Black magazine.
Portraits by Russ Flatt were auctioned off in aid of the Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
Personal favourites included kiwi model Penny Pickard,
Julia Deans, whose cut-crystal voice also accompanied a moving dance routine to start the evening, with dancers Mike Holland and Julie van Renen,
and a cracker of Sam Crocker which I could hardly tear my eyes away from.
Salasai’s ‘A Strange Love Project’ video, directed by Claire Littler and Ralph Matthews, was ethereal, witty and beautifully made, taking inspiration from the chocolate box suburbia of Edward Scissorhands. See it here http://vimeo.com/21920628
‘Beautiful Alchemy’, directed by Matt Wilson for Nick Von K, is about the transformation of a beautiful young forest nymph and was a fitting showcase for Nick’s haunting jewelry collection. See it here http://vimeo.com/21960877
I left feeling inspired and excited about the level of creative talent brewing in Auckland, not bad for a rainy Tuesday evening.
