Stolen Girlfriends Club’s Summer 2013/14 collection ‘Rogue Wave’ draws upon surf and punk influences.
Thread grabbed a fruity jam jar cocktail and attended the fashion installation styled by Duncan Brown a.k.a. Thistle Brown, with sets designed by Paris Kirby, in the Stolen workroom on Wednesday 7th August.
Co owner and Designer Marc Moore said it was iconic territory to draw upon, doing the surf thing, as that’s a huge backdrop for them – but Thread thinks they’ve hit the nail on the surf-meets-streetwear fashion head. The collection looks fashion-y enough to not look silly off the beach – as some surfy labels do – and yet still casual and summery for your New Year’s Eve beach party.
Aside from naughty pina coladas, there was a punk-takes-to-the-street vibe in sports mesh appropriated from the basketball court and given an edge. I also liked a great chequerboard print and the metal Stolen Girlfriends Club logo hexagonal bolt-type studs over leather bags, and men’s long-sleeved shirts. Long sleeve for summer? Well it does get cold out at night.
And it’s working, as Marc said sales are up about 40% over last summer. Ride the wave, guys.
