The sun was incredible on Monday which had the downside of frying anything it touched, which was largely the models – who were dressed in winter gear.
Stockings, fur, wool coats; I can’t conceive the discipline it must have taken not to faint upon impact. I don’t think that the creative director of the show was counting on such intense sun as the model’s fake eye lashes cast long shadows down their cheeks giving them the effect that they had been crying out all their makeup.
I think the most impressive outfit was from American Rag. The green was electric, and just like MiuMiu’s latest collection, it harks back to the 60s Mod style with the short skirt and fabric choice. The shape is a lot more flattering than the shift dresses of the 60s, so it would look fantastic on a much wider range of people. The gold belt was extremely well chosen as although it ties into the vintage feel, it is still fresh and modern and pulls away from making the outfit look like a costume – a risk you run when wearing vintage.
It was refreshing to see colour in amongst the black, black and more black. If you like black, you are spoilt for choice this season. I suggest following this second look with the navy blue, the splash of tan and floral colour. It’s downplayed but ultimately chic and will certainly be a nice change from the rest of the winter looks.
I’m not sure why Frat House has set up in Australia, I shudder to think that the “American style, Aussie attitude” will pick up favour amongst people. A considerable amount of America has a real knack for incredibly bland clothing. Their line will be good for really basic staples to a wardrobe, black tees, white tees, jeans, perhaps. However the “American style” seemed to miss the memo that puffer jackets haven’t been in fashion for a while now. Melbourne, indeed most of Australia doesn’t get cold enough to merit a puffer jacket – not when there are a myriad of other options that are far more exciting.
