Flying Fish Studios in Ponsonby was the setting for a well-choreographed show of models walking the plank – on a podium made of wood planks – for Australian label Vanishing Elephant’s Spring Summer 2013 on Friday 28th June.

The stage was well-set for a great show and we give it 10/10 for production, which was cordinated by Public Library, run by Emma Cruickshank. Models walked from backstage in single file then did a series of poses and turns in pairs on the podium before leaving through the standing room-only crowd.

There were lots of familiar faces seated on the two facing stadium stands: Benny Tipene from X Factor NZ, the X Factor stylists Kylie Cooke and Sacha Young, as well as Colin Mathura – Jeffree, and singer Lorde, in addition to many designers, bloggers and industry faces. After the show the audience became a party with sponsors including Mexico food and liquor, Broken Shed vodka, Red Bull, Peroni, Quina-Fina, Antipodes, and Matua.

Benny Tipene must have worn his socks from the goody bag on his appearance on X Factor NZ the following Sunday, as Mel Blatt said the best thing about his performance was his socks and I saw on Twitter they were Vanishing Elephant’s!

Clothes were casual and surf-inspired, perfect for summertime living, with palm trees and floral suits in orange tones. Vanishing Elephant do menswear that translates into womenswear, rather than the opposite where you often see labels branching into menswear. Women wore slimline blazers and flat-fronted trousers and both wore florals and plenty of chambray. The palette was muted in olive, rust, burnt orange, navy and leopard print.

Hair was by Sara Allsop for Redken, and makeup by MAC.
