Trelise Cooper took the audience down the rabbit hole into a Wonderland of pattern, print and flowers, at last night’s Theatre of Fashion for SS16/17 held at Auckland’s Q Theatre. The audience audibly gasped as they entered the theatre to see the most mind-blowing inflatable floral entranceway to the runway, and massive flowers suspended over the catwalk. It really was a trip to Wonderland and timely too with the current Alice Through the Looking Glass movie out.
The first part of the show featured the Alice prints, and stripes with patterns with florals, all styled with headpieces, neck bows, and even tiny teacups perched on a model’s head.
The second part of the show saw a shift to resort wear and the white broderie lace pieces for hazy summer days. This had a nod to the Italian Riveria, the Adriatic and Cote d’Azur, with kaftans, tunics, loose floaty layers and slimline diaphanous dresses channeling the mood of days in the riveria. Many of the beaded white dresses would be perfect for a summer bride.
Makeup – created by MAC cosmetics lead by Lockie Stonehouse – saw two layers of fake eyelashes in blue on models’ eyes, and creamy cheeks, with soft pink lips.
Hair was created by Bettjemans lead by Sacha, using L’Oreal Professionnel.
More flowers greeted guests at the door to Q Theatre, with a couch surrounded by a wall of living flowers by Ratahi Tomuri at Tomuri & Co.
