It was an early start for the Victoria Beckham show. The sun was just breaking over the New York Public Library as the hair and make up crew came in.

There was a cavalry of black suits waiting to control the photographers and writers. All editors were told that Beckham was off limits for photography and to embargo any pictures till post show.

There were strict rules for even the reporters given Redken backstage passes. Only 5 at a time for 15 minute time slots. Only luck would determine if an interview would happen with Guido Palau, Redken Global Styling Director.

At 8:15 am, there was just the calm before the storm to witness as models and stylists waited patiently. Both Beckham and Guido were nowhere to be seen, but suddenly the latter emerged to answer questions. Just as a scrum of reporters surrounded him, the aforementioned men in black came and scurried everyone away, so Beckham could walk them through her day.

But not before Guido reflected a bit about the hair.

Using Redken’s Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist and their new Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine, Guido created a tousled look that juxtaposed Victoria Beckham’s sophisticatedly tailored silhouette.

In 2009, Victoria Beckham’s sleek, figure hugging design reflected the Posh the public knew well. The hair was glossed into a deep side parted chignon. Come 2013, she reportedly sought inspiration from Scottish and British fabrics and cuts. The side part still remained, but Guido created a low textured ponytail. The heavy shine was gone, replaced by Redken’s Diamond Oil, providing more of a ‘sexy oily look’.

The clothes and the hair were full of texture and ease, testament to two fashion players at the top of their game.
