Cycle Style 2012 – Shed 10 Auckland
25 March 2012
On a beautiful sunny Sunday Thread went to Shed 10 for some Cycle Style.
The event celebrated Auckland cyclists, their bikes and of course their style. There was no shortage of new shiny bikes to try out but most people proudly arrived on their own bicycles.
It’s a fantastic venue and even better the weather is like it was on Sunday as all cyclist could gather outside, where we could also get delicious food and yummy candyfloss.
As well as bikes there were stalls for retro fashion and bespoke jewellery from Tiny Space (www.shoptinyspace.co.nz) and Dalston (www.dalston.co.nz).
Cycle Style was a joint venture from Frocks on Bikes and Cycle Action Auckland with support from Auckland Transport.

There were fashion shows from Dalston, Starfish, We’Ar yoga clothing, a debut collection from new designer Hannah Lee Jade and a vintage show from K’Road.

As well as the fashion shows there was demonstrations from the Velociteers (below), who performed synchronised cycling, and Auckland’s Hardcourt Bike Polo, which is like polo with horses but with a bike, to quote their spokesperson. For more information go to auckland.bikepolo.org.nz.

Highlights from the day were the bubbles, colour, fun and indeed points of the debut collection of Hannah Lee Jade’s show ‘The Land of Point’. This was a bright and youthful collection and got all the audience involved blowing bubbles down the catwalk to the soundtrack of Harry Nilsson’s Me And My Arrow!
However a personal favourite collection was We’Ar, the only show to have designed and made all of the models’ outfits from hats to socks and to show both men’s and women’s fashion. These stylish yet easy-to-wear clothes were perfectly coordinated using the bikes as their accessories. Also their shoes and boots were superb and all items were ethically and locally made from organic materials (as is Starfish).
