The WORKSHOP AW14 Fashion Show was held last night on Vulcan Lane in central Auckland, and Dana Lee was there to bring Thread this report…
I love the WORKSHOP shows because they know how to put on a good event. The crowd is always amazing; so many different generations and stylish people. There was also lots of drinks, good music – and of course the variety of clothes was endless.
Chris and Helen Cherry, founders of WORKSHOP, together with Grant Fell and Rachael Churchward, styled 33 models in one outfit each with chic sophistication, in a collection that was very fashion-forward. Labels included WORKSHOP Denim, Helen Cherry, Acne, Alexander Wang and Marc by Marc Jacobs to name just a few, all of which are in stores right now.
In New Zealand it is rare to have such a diverse group of people respect and follow one brand. In that aspect, WORKSHOP has achieved a lot over a number of years. I personally admire their traditional values in terms of manufacturing denim, and supporting New Zealand artists through collaborations, not to mention their selection of high profile international brand imports.
The crowd started to gather at 6pm and by 6.30pm the whole of the Vulcan Lane shop was full of people. By 7pm the show kicked off and the guests were seated on each side of a long red carpet that painted Vulcan Lane red.
For the whole duration of the show, I was inspired by how the outfits were put together as some of them were unexpected. It is amazing to see the international brands integrated with the WORKSHOP and Helen Cherry pieces so well. Each of the 33 models looked polished and stylish and had character.
I loved the contrast between the outfits. The outfit that opened the show was a white Helen Cherry Mariella Dress, then a silk Vanessa Bruno dress and soon after, came more vibrant colours mixed together such as indigo on red, orange on indigo and camo on camo with camo! The walk was organised so that the order of the outfits on the catwalk spoke individuality.
There was a lot of fun and laughter, congratulating people and just purely enjoying the company and the clothes which overall brought a fantastic vibe to the little lane on High Street.
