If you had to pick a New Zealand label that opens a fashion week with that wow-factor, then World is your go-to brand. No-one else can send models down a runway with gold hairsprayed coiffures in Marcel waves and lips thick with glitter and eyelids to match like they can.
Thread went backstage after the opening night show, and talked to the hairstylists behind the scenes.
Michael Beel, lead hairstylist for the World show, said it was inspired by 1920s book (and now movie) The Great Gatsby.
"What did we do to the hair?" Michael said. "What DIDN’T we do to the hair!" It was lacquered with gold hairspray and rows of golden bobby pins and lots – and lots – of spray to lacquer it down into submission and anchor it in place. It created the most glamorous ‘helmet head’ you’ll ever see – and just look at the amazing make-up. Vivid hues of green, red and gold shone from eyes and lips on models on the runway.
Here are some of the highlights.
