Zambesi showed their beautiful Summer 2012/13 collection on the second night of the Marr Factory shows, held pre-Fashion Week, at Golden Dawn bar in Ponsonby.
I thought this photo, left, summed up a ‘golden dawn’ very succintly.
The 8pm show on Monday 27th August included both Zambesi SS12/13 women’s and men’s wear, Zambesi footwear, bags, and the Zambesi Eyewear collection, brand new this season.
You can buy the garments now instore and online at www.zambesistore.com
The menswear collection featured two main print stories that stood out to me: polkadots, and camouflage. Whilst camo is something often seen on menswear, it’s almost never seen on sheer fabrics, which created a real double-take with their camo laceprint and a certain point of difference. Similarly, menswear doesn’t often go down the path of the polkadot, but Zambesi Man was ‘spotted’ (excuse the pun) on a summer trip to Dotsville in matching shorts and shirts.
Womenswear had familiar silhouettes in shaped bodices, loose mid-calf slips and sunfrocks ($495) and sleeveless jackets. A boat-necked, sleeveless Curve Tank came in casual or dressy options: in the cotton mesh camo laceprint, or a glam silver version in silk, cotton and sequinned silk (priced $200 – $445). This was beautifully styled with a sequin collar fastened with ribbons at the neck (From $305, instore soon.)

Make-up by M.A.C Cosmetics used clear brow set on eyebrows and Brick lip pencil and Vintage Vamp Nail lacquer to create a woman they see as "a bit underground in summer, pale and interesting and always perfectly groomed."
Fashion shows that are sponsored by 95bFM predictably have amazing music. Zambesi had a live band play throughout. The band – dressed in new season Zambesi, of course – was She’s So Rad and the DJ was Ridge Jaggers.
