Thread is heading along to the BMW Polo Open next Sunday 24th February and so we’re sharing these hair tips on how to get Polo-worthy hair…
L’Oreal Professionnel and Servilles are running a Powder Room on-site where people can go and get their hair touched-up or styled through-out the day, with product giveaways and giving away Servilles Experiences. They are creating the styles for the 4 fashion shows on the day for TK Store, Rodd & Gunn, Ted Baker and Adrian Hailwood.
Stefany Penney, Senior Stylist directing the hair team, shares her top styling tips for the BMW Polo…
What are the best hairstyles for these types of events?
Your hairstyle should always complement your outfit. If your dress has a high neckline you should wear your hair up. Try a cute topknot or a soft loose bun.
For a lower neckline you can wear your hair down, and this season think BIG. Try a big soft blow wave or loose glam waves swept over one shoulder. But remember this is an outdoor event so if you find that curls drop out of your hair in a breeze then maybe try a loose big braid or pony to one side to keep your hair looking fab for the whole day. You can pop into to see us at the Servilles and L’Oreal Professionnel Powder Room for a freshen up of your style.
Do you need to wear hats/fascinators or is it a bit more casual?
The NZ Polo Open is a bit more casual than the races however traditionally large brim hats have been worn at Polo events. If you are daring enough to try this glamorous look keep your hair simple in loose but tailored waves. But to avoid hat hair, a low ponytail or chignon keeps you looking good with or without your hat.
What current hair trends can be adapted for this event?
We are seeing a lot of braids right now. A beautiful soft braid would look great underneath a big hat or even try braiding your topknot to give it a more modern twist. Hair accessories are also popular right now; try incorporating these into your up-do. A big bow or headband can really complete a look and is very on-trend.
What can people with short hair do to make their style a bit more special for this event?
Short hair really having a fashion moment right now. Put some soft waves in your bob with a deep side parting. Think Charlize Theron or Karlie Kloss.
What type of product do you recommend to hold your style for the day?
L’Oreal Professionnel Super Dust is a must, dust in a little at the roots and you will have big hair all day long. Finish your look with a shine serum and a good strong hairspray.
What products do you recommend to combat the humidity and frizzy hair?
L’Oreal Professionnel Anti-Frizz Hairspray is amazing. It has 24 hour humidity and anti-frizz protection and is nice and easy to brush out at the end of the day.
What services will you be offering at the Servilles/L’Oreal Powder Room at the Polo Open?
All day we will be offering complimentary Style Express services, this is a dry styling service were we will use styling irons to give you glam waves, beachy curls or super straight locks. We will also have the amazing L’Oreal SteamPod with us. This is a brand new way of styling hair. It will not only give you a beautiful style, it treats your hair at the same time. Steam infuses in a treatment while we curl or straighten your hair leaving your hair feeling super soft and shiny with a long-lasting finish. Also feel free to come see us for quick up-dos and hair touch ups or just to say hi.
