Stolen Girlfriends Club Spring 2018 New Sincerity/Deep Irony

New Sincerity/Deep Irony is inspired by the book The Others by Derek Ridgers who
photographed the club-kids around London in the 1980’s. The look of the time was a mash-up of thrift store finds from different era’s and styles which created a look referencing punk, glam, new romantic, mod and military all at once. These eclectic looks were based purely on the young generation expressing themselves rather than dressing for photos and Instagram. Whether deeply sincere with what they wore or super ironic, it was more about expression and purity of self. Derek Ridgers photographed those before their time, including many members of the LGBTQ community
who were brave enough to stay true to their self-expression.

“Diversity is a bit of a ‘trend’ word at the moment, but this book really touches on this and I really wanted touch on diversity with the casting” says Marc Moore, Stolen Girlfriends Club creative director.

Bored with obvious beauty, Stolen Girlfriends Club used this diversity to portray that
perfection is not so aspirational now. Many of the models are now close friends of the
brand, and last nights cast included art students and musicians with Jess Quinn closing the
show.

The soundtrack included a mix of old and new from the following artists: Display Homes,
Nicholas Jaar, Light Asylum, ESG, Pikachunes and Underworld.
