Obviously many bands and singers over the years have gone down the path of documentaries for the big screen. Some are more of a film about the band/singer in question’s concert, while others give an insight into the fascinating or not-so fascinating life of the said band/singer. The One Direction movie, This is Us, is, in my opinion, the perfect mixture of both. The scenes of their latest world tour, soon to hit our shores, were filmed at the O2 in London, with some additional shots form their concert at the Alamodome in Mexico, which boasted 65,000 screaming fans.
These high-energy songs from the concert are woven together with snippets of their envious life: photo shoots, interviews, new cities every night, and screaming following them everywhere like a persistent shadow. My favourite moments included Zayn buying a house for his mother and sisters, flashbacks to their X Factor days, Niall’s transformation into a spiteful security guard working at one of their shows, seeing their excitement at playing Madison Square Garden, and interviews with their families, which reflected the pride shared by One Direction fans all over the world.
