One to watch

It’s a cheaper alternative to SKY, has a lot more content choice than tele, and it’s value for money at $24.99 for 11 channels. There’s also a huge movie selection, ‘Igloo on Demand,’ where you pay for separate movies when you want them, like a DVD store, at $4.99 for older ones and $6.99 for new. Sports games are pricier but that’s fine by me as I consider walking between shopping sales quickly in high heels my only form of sports.

What is it? Digital television monthly subscription with pay per view movies and sports.
Who does it suit? People on a budget (it’s cheaper than SKY), families wanting children’s programming, young singles for movies, and sports fans wanting games.
Who does it not suit? People who want to watch lots of sports – there’s a selection, but not everything and it’s not cheap.

Below: Getting started with my new Igloo TV ‘digital telly box’. I love the fun visual identity of the brand with its igloo face character on the 2D material and TV ads. I needed to have a UHF aerial on my roof in order to get it, and luckily a previous homeowner had one so it was really quick and easy to get installed.

I began my love affair with digital tele with the Emmy’s – the Christmas of Fashion, as I call it – and watched the gowns on the celebs as they walked the red carpet. Of course, I dressed appropriately, in my ugg boots, under a rug on the couch (‘the crocheted carpet’.)

I’m really enjoying the massive selection of films; it’s like having a DVD store in the lounge and I plan to catch up on heaps of films I’ve always been meaning to see but never got around to. We started off watching a new one ($6.99) ‘Parker’, starring J-Lo (Jennifer Lopez) and J-Stat (Jason Statham) which was excellent. Next up, we watched an old one ($4.99) ‘Who’s Harry Crum?’ which starred the fabulous John Candy as a bumbling P.I. in 1989. Awesome retro fashion!

As any mum knows, if the kids are happy, you are happy. My children enjoyed the Peppa Pig shows – which they know from our Peppa Pig books sent over from England – as part of the Igloo TV October promotion called cutely, ‘Oinktober.’ I like it too as there’s nothing like ‘muddy puddles – snort!’ said with an English accent to brighten one’s morning.
