Black Robin Gin

Black Robin Gin is not only multi-award winning, it also has a special connection for me personally, as it celebrates the Chatham Island birds my relative Don Merton saved from extinction. My mother’s late uncle, the amazing conservationist Don Merton, saved the highly endangered black robins of New Zealand’s Chatham Islands using foster birds of other species to nurture the eggs and chicks from the last female black robin he called ‘Old Blue’, as seen in the children’s book about it, pictured above. Every bottle of gin gives a donation to Forest & Bird to continue their great conservation efforts.

The gin that carries the black robin name, is gaining great honours internationally. Black Robin Gin was again awarded Double Gold in The Fifty Best Awards and gold medals in this years US SIP awards in a category reserved only for previous winners. “It’s getting silly in the best possible way,” says Peter Darroch, CEO of Simply Pure Rarified Spirits. “If we put all the awards on the bottles, you wouldn’t be able to see the label.”
