This truly stylish baking recipe book was created by Karla Goodwin, owner of the popular cake shop, ‘Bluebells’ located in the Auckland suburb of Hillsborough.
Karla spent several years abroad in London, before returning to New Zealand and setting up her own shop inspired by the decorative creations of the famous Hummingbird Bakery of London. Her career as a baker started in one of London’s famed cupcake shops, the Primrose Bakery. Many of the amazing techniques she gained while working there are introduced in this book.
Bluebells Cakery shows us traditional home baking recipes and techniques which are used daily by Karla at Bluebells. Recipes include biscuits, slices, loaves, cakes, cupcakes, desserts, drinks, sweets, savouries, jams, as well as piping and icing techniques and a special chapter on organising and planing your own tea parties. I especially appreciate the advice on how long we can keep each of the baked items in a container – very helpful!
Karla’s baking style is sweet and charming and the book’s art direction – including vintage china and cutlery – helps accentuate the prettiness and attention to detail of the baked items.
I am looking forward to baking many of the recipes in the lovely book, in particular, the Vanilla Rainbow Cake, Plum & Pistachio Cake with Citrus Glaze and Chocolate, Prune & Brandy Truffles.
If you would like to have some fun with your future baking projects, or wish to impress your guests at the next tea party, this is a great book for you!
