We were warmed on a cold Auckland evening by Peregrine and Gibbston Valley wines at “One night in Central Otago” at Botswana Butchery in Auckland held on Tuesday 21st August.
The event was a showcase of food and wine tastings from the Central Otago region at Botswana Butchery, which has opened this year in Auckland following its success in Queenstown.
Thread thought it was probably the most relaxed event of this type we’ve been to – fabulous drinks and nibbles and chatting with the owners – who were all very entertaining. They were a classic couple of guys; very funny. Very much a partnership built on combining their strengths!
It was a relaxed, casual dining and drinking environment, with an emphasis on dining being flexible and fun. The intention is to allow people to comfortably move between B.B. (downstairs) and Harbourside (upstairs) via a proposed new internal staircase to enjoy different courses, and to leverage the specialities that each menu and bar have to offer.

The key focus of each menu is high quality primary ingredients, and a comprehensive wine selection and industry-leading bar.
We enjoyed the South Island hospitality and the opportunity to meet the winemakers from Peregrine and Gibbston Valley who educated us on their chosen wine matches and answered guests’ questions about their varietals. The theme of the evening was to introduce themselves and provide some context for their new approach towards dining in the restaurant; they want to create a “Fun Dining” not “Fine Dining” experience.
