People say you can’t wear white after labour day… but Absolut Vodka and the lovely people of Soul Bar sure proved them wrong. So very wrong!

I’ll have to admit, I was a little reticent about attending a white party probably owing to heinous teenage flashbacks of strobes, blue lights, painful pop music and far too much glitter. Teen dreams aside, I tottered my way down to the viaduct, all of us silently thinking the unthinkable: "if they’ve put sand anywhere, it will wreck my shoes." Sans sand, we saw the light at the end of the harbour.

Sumptuous white silk tents billowed in a balmy breeze that whispered the secrets of a fabulous night awaiting inside. They didn’t lie. Divine white cocktails abounded and champagne poured forth freely, as did San Pellegrino peddled in classic cigarette-box style by some cheeky-cute wait staff.

What more could you want? How about a selection of Soul’s finest hor d’oeuvres. Melt in your mouth cauliflower fritters with a divine chili aoili, oyster shooters and skewered prawns a top a shot of gazpacho. The gourmet mini burgers were certainly a hit with more than one group!

The copious free food and drink that never seemed to run out and seemed to contribute to an incredibly up beat, cheerful mood celebrating the arrival of summer. The crowd was sophisticated yet fun, excitable but incredibly well-behaved considering.

Clamouring for balcony positions to watch the Candy Lane dancers provided ample opportunity for mingling encounters of a closer kind… But the entertainment of the night was without a doubt from DJ’s Maya and Vanya, two hot to trot sisters fresh off the plane from Europe where they have just signed an incredible contract with a new agent.

Standard of dress sublime, partygoers using the event as an excuse to dust of their stark side and flash some pale finery. One gorgeous girlie brought out her wedding dress and why not! What would be a better occasion to get a second wear from some vintage elegance.

Label lovers were in their element and those who decided to reject the white-out, though few and far between, soon slipped away to find a suitably white tablecloth to hide under. Even the paps dressed to theme, in obligatory white.

The A List photographer Norrie Montgomery declared Soul to be like Club Tropicana; very European, very Continental. Another part- goer proclaimed it a "White wash of of sparkling glamour!"

We call it the party to herald our favourite seasonal trend; the summer party. Thanks Soul.
