The three main concerns of clients having a hair colour – ammonia, grey coverage and hair damage – are addressed with the new colouring line, Redken Chromatics. I try it out at Blaze salon in Newmarket…

The ammonia-free haircolour uses Protein Extract Technology unique to Redken to leave hair feeling stronger.

"It pushes protein into the hair, leaving hair stronger" says Mags Chang at Blaze.

"There’s no ammonia, so it is nicer for the client. Plus, we’ve noticed a better result in our sensitive-scalp clients."

"It has 100% grey coverage which is just perfect" she says.

Mags mixes the Chromatics colour.

It has no ammonia, therefore no smell whatsoever.

It only processes for 35 minutes instead of the usual 45 minutes so is great for people short of time – like us mothers of small children.

There is a premium of $20 for Chromatics over the regular colour service.

Below: the finished Chromatic result.
