The finalists have just been announced for the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Awards 2011 – the Oscar Awards of the hairdressing world- where 22 finalists compete for the national title and chance to compete in Paris with the world’s best.

It’s always an exciting evening, as they hold a live recreation session in Auckland next April before the winners are announced that night. It’s always running high with emotion and the stakes are very high; the Supreme Award winner has the choice of one of two prizes – a $10,000 trip for two to visit L’Oréal Professionnel in Paris and to London to attend an education seminar in the L’Oréal UK Academy or a PR and advertising package worth $10,000.

Prizes for other individual Award winners include trips to Australia to attend Hair Expo along with fashion and beauty prizes, or a $5,000 PR and advertising package.

There are three major individual awards including the Supreme Award: New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year, the Next Generation Award and the Men’s Colour Award as well as a team award for the Salon of the Year.

How it works: The 16 individual finalists have been selected from hundreds of photographic entries by a panel of Paris-based Haute Coiffure Française stylists. Judges looked for an overall concept that brought together colour, cut, style, make-up, fashion and photography with a focus on the hair and hair colour.

On April 2, all individual finalists come together in Auckland to recreate their photographic entry live prior to the international judging panel selecting the best. The winners are announced at a glittering occasion later that evening at The Civic, The EDGE.

The 2011 awards evening will showcase the unique work of top French stylist and personality Laurent Decreton. As creative director of Haute Coiffure Française, Decreton’s effortless style has headlined in such leading campaigns as Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Lacroix and Chanel.
