Wellington salon So You held an evening on Tuesday 31st August celebrating their 6th birthday – 1st August 2012 – and the launch of their hair lookbook.
It was a fun, and informative, evening filled with demonstrations, product viewing and lots and lots of pink candy….
I found it fascinating to watch Amber from the salon team demonstrate how to create different hairstyles using a Kevin Murphy Hair sewing kit. She made it look so simple and the result was exquisite; no traces of bumps or fasteners, and a great idea for creating temporary yet dramatic hairstyles, such as the tucked-in bob.

Another cool new product I was introduced to is this this mineral hair powder by Spilt Milk which is designed to help cover any re-growth and absorb oil from the scalp. Perfect for use between colour appointments.
So You believe that a good hair consultation makes all the difference. In research conducted throughout New Zealand and Australia, Wella found some interesting facts and figures: 71% of clients have left a salon hating their new cut or colour, with 59% saying they left in tears and didn’t want to leave their house afterwards. That’s shocking.
Furthermore, 90% expect a consultation to include colour discussions, but only 35% of those clients actually receive advice on colour.
The salon team found this information very worrying. Instead, they encourage clients not to feel pressured to immediately book or make up their minds, so they are 100% sure about their hairstyle decisions. The salon provides a lovely space, where a client can relax with friends, view lookbooks and have a coffee and a chat with a Stylist. The salon also offers a complimentary blow wave the week after a restyle or a cut for their new clients.

So You is not only great at keeping up to date with the latest hairstyle trends, but also making sure that their client is happy with their hair.
They have also come out with their own lookbook which focuses on fashionable yet attainable styles that we can manage every day. For a copy of the lookbook, email So You owner Holly at holly@soyou.co.nz and see their website www.soyou.co.nz
