Sebastian and Wella showed their Pret A Porter collection for SS10 at a lunch at C.A.C. in Mt Eden hosted by Jessie Gurunathan where media got the lowdown on the hottest trends from runway to realway, demonstrated on models.
The four industry experts present were Lauren Gunn of Stephen Marr salon in Ponsonby, Frank Apostolopoulos, Creative Director of Biba salons in Victoria Australia, Shar Sutherland of Sutherland Todd salon in Christchurch, and Andrew Tetley, P&G Brand Manager.
Lauren Gunn spoke about the trends. "New Zealanders always put a twist on the overseas trends" says Lauren. "The trends we saw overseas were all about texture through the hair."
"You’ll see crops – such as on Agyness Deyn and Carey Mulligan – as well as very long looks, and we can even use extensions. It is really important to use products to keep long hair in top condition."
"In colour, the trend is stepping away from lineal columns of colour; a shift away from foils which have been around for years. There’s a move towards Global colours (one colour on the whole head) – blacks, blondes – but still with variation in that. We call this look here, the Dip Dye."
Lauren’s model, Katie, styled by Dan Ahwa, models the Wella Personalised Trends look known as ‘Nomad Couture.’ The back of her hair is fastened low and bound with embroidery thread. "You’ll see a lot of volume and structure low down on the head. The top knot was big last summer, now structure is worn lower."
Regarding colour trends, the look is for de-saturated blondes in more natural colours. "Think of the move from black and white films into colour films when actresses such as Brigitte Bardot appeared to have de-saturated blonde hair on the screen."

Frank Apostolopoulos of Biba is a SP Ambassador. "We put a lot of time and energy into prescribing the right treatments and homecare for clients" Frank said.
Frank’s model, Angela, had a strong asymetric cut in contrast to many of the catwalk looks which saw lots of long hair on the international runways.
"It’s very bold and strong, the asymetric look" Frank said. "It can be easily translated from the catwalk to a wearable look that clients can wear."
Shar Sutherland, pictured below left with model Brianna wearing Salasai, spoke about the Blondor colour range. "Blondes have been under-looked after and had less options than those with darker hair. That’s about to change."
"Gold is a word we’ve been anti as hairdressers. This is more of a biscuit or a beige-gold. It’s a wearable look and consumer-driven – not at all yellow gold!" Brianna described her hair to me earlier as "dull with regrowth" so I used Koleston colours to get warmer colour and some highlights from the roots and some in the mid-lengths. It looks like it could be her natural colour that’s faded out to the ends."
"With Blondor, we can now maintain AND offer clients change without damaging hair. Blonde is the most requested process, even in the form of lightening dark hair colours, so the market is huge."

Sebastian Volupte line aims at creating volume with softness for the first time. No more crunchy volume.
"We are launching three new Volupte products, including a clear gloss you put on the hair and develop for twenty minutes. Jagger’s hair was styled using Volupte spray after Volupte shampoo and conditioner. It’s great if you’re wanting to create a wearable look everyday" said Andrew.
