Hair stylist Chetan Mongia took to the stage of The New Zealand Fashion Festival at Shed 10 last night to let us in on the top tips of how to get that catwalk look at the TRESemme Masterclass.

1. Big hair! “Go big and go massive” says Chetan. Get a beachy soft wavy look with Tresemme 24hr Body which creates friction for each hair strand to make your hair fuller. This means the must-have of 2012 is to invest in some decent rollers.

2. Stay away from silicone products as they may create shine in the short term but in the long term is will make your hair brittle and appear damaged.

3. Ask your hairdresser how to recreate looks. Why spend the money if you can’t recreate that ‘just stepped out the salon’ look. Chetan says on seeing what you like in a magazine, “See it, rip it out and take it to the salon."

4. When doing back combing, backcomb the underneath section of hair leaving a smooth section to go on top so that you don’t see the messy bit!

5. Have the right tools. Get yourself a great hair dryer, think about what your hairdressers hairdryer is like in comparison to yours at home.

6. Top looks from the catwalk in 2012 are the Valentino Braid, lots of big hair and Dries Van Noten’s spring ponytail. So, lots of hair spray which ever way.
