Wella Trend Vision Award Finals
Monday 13th September 2010
I can certainly tell a Wella woman after attending the finals of the New Zealand Wella Trend Vision Hairdressing Awards on Monday night at the impressive Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Hosted by Colin Mathura-Jeffree of New Zealand’s Next Top Model fame and attended by a mass of hairdressers from around the country the event showcased a fantastic standard of creative colouring and styling by all 17 finalists fighting it out for gold in order to compete on the international stage in Paris.
Grabbing a little bubbles and perching myself right at the front (thank you Fresh PR for the VIP seating!) we were treated to a great line-up of quirky and colourful hair creations. Models strutted their stuff in a variety of weird and wonderful outfits, their dress playing a key part in their overall look.
You may have read my article back in July when I reviewed the Auckland Wella Trend Award finals, so just to refresh your memory, last night’s event included the 17 winners from around New Zealand who competed in the categories of four directional Trend Vision themes: Nomad Couture, Nature’s Goddess, Techno Poetry and Midnight Stage.
Colours that stood out were pale ash blondes with pink and purple hues thrown in and delicious mahoganies mixed with blues and reds.
Hair designs included French braiding, teasing and several short edgy cuts – not for the faint hearted!
While I mingled in the break I chatted to one of the finalists, Chinney Yeap from Buoy Hairdressing who loved being a part of the event. She said she’d taken part previously as a model and this inspired her to enter a design for 2010.
The Wella Trend Vision Awards is an influential event in the hairdressing calendar globally. It is the only live competition where aspiring talent can compete against the best in the industry.
The judging panel included key industry and stylists such as Grant Bettjeman, Cameron Grimshaw, Lisa Wang, Charmaine Guest, Joey Scandizzo and Kerry Langsford.
