Irises and roses, petals and deeply scented flowers. The colours and shapes of spring flowers inspired the new Clarins Eclat Limited Edition Spring makeup collection, which I photographed against the flower patterns of vintage china to show of its delicate shades.
Silhouettes of irises bloom on the Eye Quartet Mineral Palette of four eyeshadows, in shades of black, brown, purple and white. The signature flower this Spring is the iris, an elegant spring flower whose bloom goes across the four quarters of this compact in a raised impression. The iris flower is a perennial which dies down and then flowers in the spring, making it ideal as the muse for this Clarins eyeshadow. The pun on iris also being part of the eye, and on the eyeshadow, won’t be lost on Clarins customers, either!
The eyeshadow has a silky finish and a long-hold formulation. The two base colours are strengthened by a black eyeshadow to intensify and define, and the white shade to illuminate. As with all Clarins eyeshadows, use this wet for extreme colour or dry for a more subtle effect. Comes in a mirrored compact with two sponge tipped applicators.

Below: Clarins Face & Blush Powder (limited edition, $76) has three shades (a nude, peach and pink) to blend in a smooth movement with a brsh, tap off excess, and apply for a natural and glowing complexion. Pretty but not too flawless and "made-up" looking – just right for a Spring face. I think the use of the three colours together gives this a nice balance and avoids it looking too flat and heavy-looking on the face. It achieves a nice variety of shades as our skin of course is not just one, flat colour!
Clarins Mineral Loose Powder is a translucent powder for setting makeup so you look great all day long. It comes in this divine old-fashioned jar with a white powder puff.
Last but not least; lips. Clarins famously do a great lipstick and this collection is no different.
The new Rouge Eclat Lipstick is Clarins’ first "age-defying lipstick", which means ingredients to give intense nutrition from pure plant waxes (the good botanical oils of mimosa, jojoba and sunflower) and phytosphingosine. This ingredient is included to reinforce the protective barrier of the skin, improve synthesis of collagen (to give youthful, plumper lips where they start to show lines) and rehydrate. The result is a really creamy and nourishing lipstick with the signature scent of Clarins lipsticks: blackcurrant and liquorice.Rouge Eclat is $49 and comes in a dizzing array of fifteen shades across trending fuschia, berry and coral, and the more classic rose and wine shades.
For gloss lovers – and there are lots of us out there – Clarins have the gorgeous Gloss Prodige; a super-gloss that gives a more colour-rich finish that you may expect from a traditional lip gloss. The colour-saturated lipgloss is a new trend in beauty markets; the colour of a lipstick but the shine of a gloss, combined. Gloss Prodige is $42 in two new permanent shades: 09 Water Lily and 10 Vibrant Rose.
Also occupying the ground between lipstick and gloss is the Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipstick. This has a sparkling effect and a sheerer – as the name suggests – lipstick finish. It is $49 and comes in two new permanant shades: 17 Watermelon and 18 Sweet Plum.
The Eclat limited-edition Spring Colour collection is available from Clarins counters and online at www.adorebeauty.com.au from 26 August 2013.
