Taking the freshness of cotton fields for its inspiration for its spring make-up collection 2010/11, Clarins’ new Cotton Flower with a range of pretty pastel hues and soft shades you’ll wait a cotton pickin’ minute for.
It’s a very fresh and natural collection with all the colours coming straight from nature; an off-white of ripe cotton, purples of lilac flowers, and dusky rose from blossoms.
Joli Rouge Brilliant is a sheer lipstick (below left in Sorbet) with a little- I wouldn’t say a ‘sparkle’ – but definitely an effervescence. It is more transparent than highly pigmented. Below right: Joli Rouge lipstick has intense colour and moisturisation in Pink Blossom.
For a lighter touch for lips – which is what lots of us prefer come springtime – there are two new shades of Gloss Appeal; No.10 Iced Pink (pictured below) and No.11 Sweet Fig (RRP$41)
Single eye colours come in two new shades; No.25 Desert Blonde (pictured) and No.26 Dusky Rose. (RRP$41)
And a combo of eye shadows in this beautiful palette. The Eye Quartet and Liner Palette (RRP$85) has a divine denim blue liner which is an intense inky navy and a liner brush for application, complemented by four eye-shadows.
Create smoky blue eyes for Spring; a fresh alternative to black and brown smoky eyes.
Use Glacier Violet (centre) over the entire eyelid to open and brighten the eyes. Add True Blue (top right) to the outer corners of the eyes. Blend Blue Lilac (centre right) with Glacier Violet and True Blue for a softly shaded effect. Lastly, apply Cotton White (left) as a touch of light to the eye’s inner corners.
Thread.co.nz’s favourite star pick is the Face Palette (RRP$81) with the signature emblem of the Spring Summer collection; the cotton flower. Combine the beige and the iridescent white together with your brush and apply over foundation. Note- the cotton flowers do have glittery bits in them. If you don’t fancy sparkles on your face, use the nude colour in the background as a cheek highlighter high on your brow bone to add light.
The ideal foundation to perfect your skin is Clarins Everlasting Foundation SPF15 (RRP $79.)
Not only do we love the heavy-in-your-hand glass bottle and the gold pump dispenser, it has a long-lasting formulation and a sun filter too – great for Spring. It contains a microfilm for even coverage and a light optimising complex to diffuse light for a radiant complexion. It felt smooth and soft and did last well.
So, cotton on to a fresh new face for Spring. Get into lilacs and navy liner where you would have used beige and brown before. Blue- it’s the new black!
