Coral seems to to be entrenched as a key trend with new season lipsticks from Karen Murrell, Smashbox, Clinique, and Clarins all sporting the orange-red shade in their latest collections for Autumn 2012.

Clinique have put into production ‘Runway Coral’, the Clinique Long Last orange-red shade sported on the Karen Walker runway. Available online only, it’s on the Australian Clinique website now for AUS$36.

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Melondrama (below, $45) gives a pale wash of colour that you can layer up for more strength of colour. It is creamy with a shiny finish. We like the buttery texture and that is actually contains Shea butter for softness. I was watching Zooey Deschanel in New Girl last night and it looks like exactly the shade she is wearing in it. This shade is gorgeous on that brown hair, creamy skin look.

Karen Murrell is our New Zealand "lipstick queen"; a brunette beauty with a passion for natural skincare (she was behind the creation of low-priced skincare brand, Skinfood, years ago) and really knows her stuff. Karen also had skincare under her eponymously-titled brand until earlier 2012 when she decided to stop the skincare line to concentrate on the lipstick side of things.

She really knows colour, and has been putting time, energy and resources into the development of these new colours that fit the current trends of coral, fuschia, rose, and sand. The lipstick colours retail at $29.95 and add to the existing product range of which gorgeous deep nude Cordovan Natural is Thread’s favourite nude lippy.

I think Coral Dawn will be a new favourite. I’m wearing it right now, and it has an amazing consistency, and deep colour. In fact, I’m throwing my old coral lippie away.

Coral Dawn joins Carnation Mist, Sand Storm, and Fuschia Shock, pictured below.

Karen Murrell’s so-called ‘vegetarian lipsticks’ boast no animal-based materials or animal testing. Their formulations include avocado oil for hydration, cinnamon for fuller lips, and evening primrose oil for Omega 6 to moisturise. The lipsticks have a base of carnauba wax which has a high melting point so it won’t melt away in your handbag or car.

Dr.Hauschka have launched their new Limited Edition Inner Glow Lipsticks in five new colours from rose crystal to pink topaz and red quartz.

They have a high quality feel in the brushed gold canisters, and a gorgeous, soft consistency that is comfortable to wear. Thread’s favourite is 15 Violet Marble, a deep berry shade (top right above).

Key ingredients in Dr.Hauschka Inner Glow Lipsticks include extract of rose blossoms and anthyllis, almond oil, apricot kernel oil, and Jojoba, rose wax, beeswax, candelilla wax and carnauba wax.

For Autumn 2012, Clarins have released their Colour Definition make-up collection. Their popular Joli Rouge lipsticks come in two new colourways this season: 732 Grenadine and 733 Fig.

Grenadine is a beautiful pomegranate red (below left) and Fig is a brown-red (below right) both with a high-shine finish. The formula is a long-wearing, and deeply moisturising. They retail for $53 each from Clarins counters.
