Kate Moss for Rimmel

Like most women my age, I succumbed to the allure of nude lip-gloss in the early 2000s, when lipstick seemed passé and well, old-fashioned. But I never loved it the way I loved lipstick. But with the revival of pin-up looks…

I’m a lipstick fan, have been since the early nineties, when, as a teenager, I stumbled upon the amazing matte dark goodness that was Poppy Lipstick.

Around about the same time, I found a copy of Kate Moss’ iconic first Face magazine cover. So, in my mind at least, lippie and Kate Moss go together.

Like most women my age, I succumbed to the allure of nude lip-gloss in the early 2000s, when lipstick seemed passé and well, old-fashioned. But I never loved it the way I loved lipstick. But with the revival of pin-up looks, the popularity of lipstick has grown once more.

Most cosmetic companies now offer a range of colours and finishes that will suit every skin tone and preference. I’m a wearer of bright, bold colour – with fair skin and dark hair these suit me, and make my face come alive. As I have hazel green eyes, I tend to stick to the reds, fuchsias, and oranges, as these shades make my eye colour pop. For the last 18 months or so, I’ve had a fuchsia (M.A.C’s Girl About Town) that has become my signature shade.

So I was delighted to trial a new product from British cosmetic legend, Rimmel, in a collaboration with British style icon Kate Moss. It’s a fantastic fuchsia Lasting Finish Lipstick called Rossetto ($14.99) that provides long-wearing coverage, moisture, and, most importantly, a gloriously bold pink that veers towards scarlet and merlot without abandoning the joy that only pink can bring.

The lippie reaches perfection for me as it bears Kate Moss’ signature – personalizing it for me, another Kate.

Part of the same collection is a series of patriotic eye palettes that provide a reminder of Cool Britannia with Union Jack iconography in a range of perfect colours ($17.50)

– my green eyes loved the greys and purples of the Purple Reign set.

While I love a dramatic smoky eye, I tend to save this look for evening with a paler lipstick than my usual daywear. Bright, bold lipstick like Rimmel’s Rossetto provides me with the confidence to face the working day – and I have to say, makes me feel fully dressed.

Available from KMart, Farmers and selected The Warehouse stores.
