Singing sensation Katy Perry has colaborated with nail lacquer sensation O.P.I to create a 5-piece nailpolish collection that is definitely a Teenage Dream.
I road-test the new Shatter Black top coat that gives a cracked pattern over other colours…
Retailing at the regular O.P.I. price of $24.90, the colours are: Teenage Dream (a plummy pink sparkle), Not Like the Movies (metallic silver), Last Friday Night (a blue glitter), and The One That Got Away (a deepest dark berry purple).
But by far the highlight is the ground-breaking Shatter Black that creates a cracked textured look when applied over dried nail polish.
Below: I apply the first step: Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night. It comes out quite sheer and irridescent rather than metal squares of glitter. It would be fine to stop here. But…
I apply the Shatter Black top coat. At first I think I have done it too thickly, as it covers the entire nail with an opaque layer. But wait! After less than half a minute it starts crackling and forms into random shapes. It looks almost like an animal print in design. And each nail you do, will be different. On the downside, it does have a rougher texture than a regular nail lacquer.

Below: Not in San Fransisco with flowers in her hair, but in California with gerberas on her head: Katy Perry in the ad campaign wearing a blue wig, fringed California surfer crop-top over a bikini with leather hotpants. A pop pin-up.
Katy Perry for O.P.I. is available in NewZealand from 8 April 2011. See www.globalbeauty.co.nz for stockists.
