With Drew Barrymore as its spokeswoman and model – at 35 years of age – she lends an edginess and maturity to the brand many think of as the first makeup you buy when you’re a student.

The newly re-launched Covergirl Clean Sensitive Skin range from Covergirl is now 100% fragrance and oil free and is still makeup for the young at heart. This foundation is clean and fresh but not just for 14 year olds.

We tried the new formula Covergirl Clean Sensitive Skin Liquid Makeup ($15.99) and Clean Sensitive Skin Pressed Powder ($16.99).

At first glance, the packaging is a huge improvement alone.

It is light and silky, blending easily to your natural skin tones. The foundation allows your skin’s own colour to be seen but still offers good light to medium cover. I found it great for those naughty areas around the nose that can be a little red and the dark bits under my eyes disappeared in a stroke, magic! I love the way it goes on really easily, without that heavy or caked-on feel. Nothing is worse than when you look in the mirror and to your horror your face looks like you tried to fill it up with Selleys All Clear.

This new range is – like it says on the tin – light and clean, giving your face a lift. It is also perfect for people with sensitive skin like me, as it is fragrance and oil free. Also amazingly enough somehow the scientists at Covergirl have got silicone into their product (the mind boggles with inappropriate comments, but with a fear of never being asked to review again, I shall refrain. If Covergirl’s keeping it Clean, so will I.) The result for us is a beautiful natural looking complexion.

I also love the combo of using the liquid makeup with the pressed powder on top to maintain great coverage throughout the day. The pressed powder contains oat flower, eucalyptus and clove oil. This secret weapon, with a great mirror, now has a permanent spot in my handbag, and it’s great to be able to touch up after lunch or before heading out the door.

Covergirl is back. And If Drew Barrymore can come clean, so can you.
