Beauty products that seek out problems to fix?

That’s what wer’re talking about.

Here are some beauty releases that aim to solve problems, from finishing mists to anti-shine mattifier powders…

Here are two indispensible products from M.A.C for the alpha and omega of your makeup routine: to use at the start for prepping, and at the end for fixing makeup.

If you’re lucky enough to have had a professional makeup done by M.A.C artists, you’ll recall they started by smoothing a balm on your lips before doing your foundation. This is to ensure your lip’s skin softens during the makeup process to be deliciously smooth when the time comes to apply lipcolour, nearer the end of the makeup.

Do you find your make-up shifts a little – or a lot – during the course of the day, or looks a bit powdery when you’re done?

Try the famous FIX+ (pronounced "fix plus") spray from M.A.C. You apply the finishing spray at the end of the makeup to set powder foundations, spritzed lightly over your face (shut your eyes!) as a make-up finishing mist. You can also apply it during the day, as a skin refresher. You can even use it to dampen your eyeshadow brush when you want a more intense look from eyeshadows wet (rather than dry, which is subtler.) We love a multi-tasker.

Now you’ve got all that make-up on, you’ll need to get it all off again at the end of the night…

Do you often need to clean off pesky difficult-to-remove eye makeup but have sensitive eyes so you can’t use a really strong remover? Yes it is common; me too. Clarins have released a Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover for sensitive eyes and an Instant Eye Make-Up Remover for waterproof and heavy make-up. Even the colours are gorgeous, with a translucent turquoise hue and the bi-tone of the Instant Eye Make-Up Remover. Available from Clarins counters.

Speaking of eyes…

If you are on the computer a lot like me, you get quite tired and strained eyes. Guerlain are addressing this with their Aqua-Eye Serum to revive eyes; a new eye serum of its 25-year best-selling product. It does more than revive eyes though; it’s a real hardworker: it gives deep hydration to the delicate eye area, it plumps wrinkles, and it refreshes eyes, banishing dark circles. The packaging is absolutely divine with its royal blue bottle with a gold press lid dispenser. Aqua-Eye Serum is available from Guerlain counters at selected department stores.

Shiny face?

Youngblood has the solution. For those who struggle with oil-control, this fingertip or sponge-applied mattifier will absorb excess oil so your make-up lasts and lasts instead of slips off down your neck! Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Anti-Shine Mattifier Oil Control Solution is $70.90 from stockists nationwide – see www.beautysense.co.nz and for more information see www.ybskin.com

You may not want a shiny face, but everyone wants glossy shiner hair.

Redken’s new hero product, Diamond Oil, is a silicone-free hair shine oil to condition dull or damaged hair. It can be used on dry or damp hair and reapplied to dry hair as required. The faceted bottle and eye dropper dispenser make the packaging really something special in the hair oil market, too. I had it put on my hair at Blaze salon in Newmarket when I had a colour and blow-wave there this week, (post-colour and pre-blowdry) to condition my dry and coloured hair. About $40 from Redken salons and www.ponyprofessionnel.co.nz
