Make-up should be fun; beauty should be enjoyable. Maybelline New York encapsulates these ideas perfectly, never taking itself too seriously but just as comfortably fitting into the mode of glamour and glitz.

Tailored cleverly to counteract winter’s bleak persona, the latest releases from the Maybelline New York stable zing with all the party girl glam you could possibly conjure.

The Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss is just what it sets out to be: a glossy punch of sass. The Gleaming Grenadine colour is revved up and bright, providing that high confidence appearance so entwined with a scarlet pout.

Available in ten different shades, this gloss has the added ingredient of honey nectar to keep things sweet and smooth. I found that if applied and blotted a couple of times, the product’s staying power was pretty good; safe in my handbag, I only needed to top up a couple of times a day.

On the days when lips feel like a flirt with au natural, Maybelline New York’s new Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner can be the answer to maintaining that party girl look. With a very shaky reputation on the eyeliner front, my use of the liquid variety has been bound by a fear of drippy lids and wobbly strokes. Well, if ever there was a product for liquid liner virgins, this is it. An easy applicator makes for a fairly fluid experience and dries instantly, the result unfazed by mildly teary eyes or fits of laughter. Nice.

And, just to make sure that the girl leaves the house suitably equipped for any situation, rain or shine, there’s a new collection of polishes. These aren’t wallflower polishes. They’re wild, zany colours that sing of good company, fun times and making the most of cold days with bright, popping details. With names like Gold’s Night Out, Rose Bling and Twilight Rays, there’s a clear beeline for glitz and glam.

Which, when the days are short and the nights are long, makes very good sense indeed.
