adidas Originals hosted a ‘Streets Where Originality Lives’ event at Plaything Gallery in Auckland with a party heaving at capacity with Hip Hop MCs, DJs, Team Dynamite and David Dallas performing, and skateboarders on the rooftop….

In 2010, adidas Originals launches their Celebrate Originality campaign, saying, "Evolving from the successful 2009 “house party”, this year’s campaign embraces the “streets where originality lives”. In a neighbourhood, it brings together an eclectic mix of people from the worlds of music, fashion and sport, all showing their individual appreciation of originality and the adidas brand."

And an eclectic mix it was, with a real mixture – not just your normal industry-slash-scenesters- present to party at the event in Newton last night.

The Plaything Gallery was filled with a capacity crowd inside as well as on the rooftop where skateboarders and of course all the smokers congregated. Guests had my favourite pizzeria, Il Buco’s slices, washed down with 42 Below cocktails, and Vitamin Water. And the trend for the inch-long mini-burger remains strong! Gallery walls were adorned with artwork by Vice magazine contributors and free Vice magazines lined the room.

If the shoe fits, wear it: adidas Originals footwear was thrown into the crowd for a lucky men’s size 9 to take some free shoes home.

adidas Originals street parties from around the globe featuring celebrities in adidas for the campaign, played on the big screen.

"Hey, ho!" Auckland Hip Hop group, Team Dynamite put their hands in the air and wave them like they just don’t care.

Team Dynamite blew us away and US DJ Neil Armstrong, in NZ for the first time especially for the party, was out of sight.

David Dallas was fabulous; charismatic and a genuine talent. formerly known as Con Psy, and half of group Frontline, David Dallas promoted his new album ‘Something Awesome’ and sung tracks with the DJ mixing, as well as spoken word raps, including hit track, ‘Til Tomorrow.’ He was a bit worried about the crowd not coming close enough to the stage and being a bit frigid, but said we warmed up after a while and he got the crowd well into it a few songs in.

DJ shadow: David Dallas casts a shadow on the adidas projection. He said how easy it was to represent adidas, as it isn’t a stretch at all for him, it’s what he’s always loved and chooses to wear.
