Attending the New Zealand School of Dance performances in Wellington are a treat and the opening night of Sketch was no exception. Raw and mesmerising, the choreography was well thought out and dancers well selected for each piece.

Sketch a collection of contemporary dance work, has been choreographed by final year students at Te Whaea: National Dance & Drama Centre in Wellington. This also included a captivating film in the foyer by Emma Cullinan and Holly Macpherson (design student).

Performing the works were students of the New Zealand School of Dance. Projected animation by Paul Bradley helped segment performances.

There were eleven short pieces. It was amazing how each piece took the audience on a emotional trip from comedy seen in’ Variations on a Team’ choreographed by Zoe Dunwoodie to intense raw angst in Rebecca Bassett-Graham’s ‘Left Unsaid’.
Viewing the opening performance Leigh Osnabrugge said “tonight there were some very raw emotions displayed. There was definitely alot of energy and time spent on rehearsing”.
