Ellie Goulding Live at The Studio, Auckland 25th October 2012
"I took a gamble on this" Ellie Goulding said to the crowd of enthusiastic fans, pointing to her sheer short dress that showed her underwear. "It’s a bit little sexy – and a little bit not." The crowd seemed to think she was a whole lot of sexy, and the iPhones were Instagramming all night – especially the cheeky shots from behind – as the 25 year old UK pop singer played a sold-out gig at Auckland venue, The Studio.
Ellie really tried to engage with fans, even trying some local language, "How ya doing?" in a Kiwi accent – or closest to it if one’s from Newcastle England. She chatted in between songs, and got handed a note from a fan – but refused to read that one out despite cheers.
She played guitar alone on stage for a Guns & Roses cover, and had a band of four men in black ‘he-vage’ tops and lots of synthesisers for most, including her well-known hits, and plenty from the new Halcyon album.
It was a fantastic concert and had a palpable buzz of good energy, with no small credit to the passion and charisma of the performer. I’m sure next time Ellie visits New Zealand, it will be a much bigger venue than this as her fanbase grows here.
