7 Days Live
NZ vs The World
7 Days Live made the most of the visiting international comedians and pitted them against a New Zealand team comprising of usually rival captains Paul Ego and Dai Henwood, and Cal Wilson. The overseas team had the ever-capable Chopper at the helm, and Jason John Whitehead and Mark Watson making up the panel.
Regular game favourites such as Answers, My Kid Could Draw That, Yes Minister, Slice of Seven and Captions were all played with ferocious humour from both sides, but as always it was the banter that followed and team interaction that brought about some of the biggest laughs. Osama Bin Laden, Barrack Obama, Don Brash and Rodney Hide were all sitting ducks in both teams’ comedy crosshairs.
It was Chopper’s quick wit that made him a highlight of the show, Mark Watson sadly became too put-off by the locally referenced jokes and occasionally his slightly dark humour seemed to be misunderstood. Paul Ego was on his usual good form and there was good chemistry between the remaining panellists.
Playful animosity began to emerge as the show progressed, with host Jeremy Corbett lavishing points upon the Kiwi team leading to a walk out from Chopper, but you’ll have to check out the final cut on television to find out the overall results. 7 Days Live reinforced exactly why this show is such an enduring hit on television; the comedians are a delight to watch and Kiwi audiences continue to enjoy laughing at their politicians and local characters.
Screening on TV3 at 9pm, May 6.
