We were looking forward to the second night of Splore for a few reasons.
One was Mayer Hawthorne; we’ve been interested in the recent resurgence of soul music and Mayer Hawthorne has been near the front of the pack with a modern twist on a more traditional style of music.
The other reason was that we had really enjoyed the first night and were simply keen to head back for round two.
Once again, we were well rewarded with performance artist Empress Stah hanging for the ceiling above the crowd and engaging in various aerial acrobatics, while the crowd settled in for a great evening.
We missed Four Tet but did manage to catch Belleruche (pictured below) before Mayer Hawthorne, Caribou and the Cuban Brothers.

Just like Friday night, the Splore audience isn’t too staunch to show they are enjoying themselves and it’s great to see a full venue getting fully into the sights and sounds of the Splore vibe.
The second night of Splore helped confirm to us that there is a place for this style of event. It’s encouraging to see more diverse artists being bought to New Zealand by promoters who are obviously keen to broaden our horizons.

If Splore City does become a more regular companion to its big, seaside brother, it will be an event that will be well worth attending.
