All that glitters

Group Show – Augustine International
NZ Fashion Week 22 September 2010

The second half of Wednesday’s group showing at fashion week was the debut NZFW outing of Augustine International.

The first strands of “Broken Hallelujah” heralded a very beautiful and glimmering opening with the first two models up-turned palms allowing streams of glittering gold to fall to the floor.

The brightly coloured net skirts may have been a touch tutu much and distracted from otherwise well cut cropped jackets with zip tailoring and a strong shoulder focus.

The show was refreshingly colourful with strong tones of fuchsia pink, aqua blue and orange. In particular the brightly printed butterfly silks showed strong influences from designers like Alexander McQueen.

The show was overall reminiscent of what we are currently seeing in stores this season; a strong shoulder focus, lots of heavy trimmings, embellishment and frills.

Whilst Augustine International has not offered us anything refreshingly new or fashionably forward it will meet a niche market that has up until now been somewhat dormant. A “Baby Bennetti” of sorts, this new label shows strong signs of finding favour in event style dressing with a myriad of cocktail type dress options for the more sequin hungry amongst us.
