I want to begin by saying I adore Cybele, and this is one of my favourite shows from Fashion Week so far. Any show that can combine owls with cats is going to be a winner in my book for starters.

Her Autumn Winter 2013 collection ‘Nocturne’ drew on imagery of dusk with night creatures – owls and cats – bringing a magical touch to garments in grey screenprints that upon closer inspection are composite images made up of flowers. A black magic theme often appears in Cybele Wiren’s shows and this one is no different.

The show opened with wide-waisted clear plastic belts and platform heels accessorised with metallic tights and metallic make-up. Read about the MAC make-up for Cybele on thread.co.nz here. Hair was worn in double-bun knots at the nape of neck and hung down the back from a deep side part.

Polos are back! Grey marle polo neck sweaters teamed with gored swing skirts. Criss-crossed shoulder straps that we know and love from Cybele also made an appearance. Thankfully for a winter collection there were coats for her nocturnal heroine. A key look was a navy swing coat in tweed wool.

A stand-out in Nocturne was plastic, edged with black binding, forming a heart-shaped breastplate on black cocktail dresses and armour-like collars and shields.

Colours drew on a twilight palette of black and blue and a blush that is a personal favourite of mine. Okay, there were many reasons why I loved this collection:

– owls and cats
– blush pink silk
– black lace trousers
– plastic collars
– metallic tights

In all, it is edgy and interesting, whilst still being commercially viable and wearable; a perfect combination in my opinion.
